Posted May 23, 2018 07:53:25A group of house builders and home builders has erected a banner in the construction zone near the intersection of East Main and W. Main streets that reads “We have built.”
The sign is located just east of the intersection, where the intersection is marked by the construction signs.
According to John Tippett, who manages the building site for the city of New Orleans, the signs have been in place since April and will be placed throughout the week.
He said the sign was placed because of a dispute between the two parties.
“It’s our responsibility as a builder to protect our property from any kind of trespassing,” Tippets said.
“We’re not building the homes for the rich, it’s not their intention, it isn’t our intent, but that’s how the agreement is between them.
We are a city with a low income housing population and the property owners are the poor.
They need the building.
And the city needs it.”
According to Tippetts, the sign is part of a larger effort to protect property rights, especially in the city’s South Central and West neighborhoods.
“The city is going to put the first ones up in the next week or two,” Tipper said.
“The first signs are the ones that are going to protect the property rights of the property owner, but I think the city is also looking to protect their neighbors.”
He said the signs are being erected in an effort to create awareness among homeowners about the citys plans for the area.
“You’re going to see a lot of people going out there and saying, ‘Hey, I have my house, what are we going to do?’
And we’re going be there for them,” Tipping said.
