Posted October 09, 2019 06:03:11An Ontario bakery owner says the company he’s working with is being “constitutionally challenged” for allegedly breaching contracts.
Karen Stoddart, who runs the Canadian Bakery, says the Ontario Superior Court of Justice has granted an injunction against the company.
She says it’s not clear what exactly the injunction is meant to cover, but the court has ruled in her favour.
“There’s no law in Ontario which would allow this to go ahead,” Stoddard said.
She said the injunction was necessary in order to ensure that her business can continue to operate.
Bakery owners in Ontario are required by law to keep a written contract with their customers, even if they’re not in the same building.
“We don’t have to abide by a contract with customers.
The only contract we have to have is a written one,” Stollart said.
She says the court’s decision will allow her to keep working on the bakery, despite the injunction.
The case has been put on hold while the legal proceedings proceed.
Stoddard says she’s still trying to secure a deal for the future of the business, and the bakery could still be closed down.
